Common mistake Choosing the right word
Spelling of common words
Spelling mistakes in common English words
A word spelled wrongly, or a typo (for example "bussiness", "journmalism", "recieve", "definately", "enviroment", "perental"). Only for a word that exists but is spelled wrong. Put only the misspelled word in "words" and its right spelling in "fix". A US/UK spelling difference (center / centre) is not a mistake. In short: Look closely at the word: double letters, silent letters and endings that look alike are where mistakes hide.
This guide is for writers moving from B1 to B2 or from B2 to C1.
The rule for spelling mistakes
Look closely at the word: double letters, silent letters and endings that look alike are where mistakes hide.
Pattern: Learn the tricky letters of each word: double letters, silent letters and look-alike endings.
Use this when you know a word but spell it wrongly. A spell checker does not always catch it.
